Sunday - A surgeon was called in to open Jerry and drain/dress the seepage from his infection. Tomorrow his regular surgeon will decide if he needs to operate again or what they will need to do to take care of the problem. Jerry was very tired today and asked family members to leave so that he could rest.

Saturday - Jerry had such a good day. He was alert and interested in everything that was happening. He talked more. He listened intently as I told him about the meeting at Trinity. He rejoiced at good news. (Ruth doesn't have cancer!) He didn't complain as much about pain today, although his incision was seeping a lot and he had to limit his movement. Tonight he got his first nourishment of TPN through his pick-line. I know he misses having ice chips/liquid, but he's content with swabs and mouthwash is a real treat. Our hearts will be with you tomorrow as you meet together for worship.

Jerry continues to struggle with nausea so he has not been permitted to have ice chips/liquid. He is hurting and miserable. But the good news - 6 days have gone by and he doesn't have a blood clot or complications. We did get news today that his father, Homer Williams has bronchitis. As you know, he is struggling with cancer. Please remember him in your prayers today.

After regurgiating all night and through the morning, the angeo tube was put back into Jerry. He's back to a few ice chips since he was unable to handle the liquids. He did sit up for a brief period and even went on a short walk for the first time. After a rough night, he slept most of the day.

Wednesday, July 27 - Jerry is working hard to make progress. Every day without a blood clot or infection is a good day! He was so happy to get some liquids yesterday. He will remain on the heart monitor for several more days. They are giving him insulin now. I'm not sure if he will be considered a diabetic when he comes home or whether this is entirely due to his hospital-illness stress/medications and will improve with time. Yesterday we received a lesson on how to take care of a colostomy. He is still hooked up to a lot of things, so he is unable to stand or walk. I'm concerned that the lack of activity is having an adverse affect on his muscles. I will be relieved when he can move around more. At the moment every thought, breath, word and action seems so labored and requires such energy. We want to thank everyone who has taken care of the worship services and the affairs of the churches. I will be off of my vacation on Monday, August 1st, just in time for Vacation Bible School! I will be back in the pulpit August 6/7. I've missed you! We have top knotch speakers for Trafford:Trinity UMC. You won't want to miss any of these people! I will be meeting with the Trafford:Trinity UMC people this Saturday to teach them how to do home communions. We are hoping to form several teams that will visit the shut-ins once a month and give them communion. You can call Cliff Felmlee (412-372-6699) for more information. I don't know the time as of yet. I want to assure you that attending the meeting on Saturday does not obligate you or commit you in anyway to do anything. This meeting is just informational. If you are interesting in participating you can talk to Cliff and he will put you on the schedule. Jerry and I cannot thank you enough for your thoughts and prayers and help during this time. When I look at Jerry I see a big example of how "bad things happen to good people!" This is a part of life. I also see that "in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28) Life is hard but God is good! Our thoughts and prayers are with you today. We love you all so very much!

Sunday - July 24 Jerry is making good progress. He was able to sit in a chair for a short time today and enjoyed eating ice chips. The doctors are very cautious and continually remind us that he is not out of the woods yet. They warn us that there may be complications, blood clots, infections etc... Because he is in a very delicate stage of recovery and a high risk patient, we are asking that he have no visitors until he a little stronger and more able to fight infections. We can't thank you enough for your prayers. We were told that if we had delayed 2 more hours in calling the ambulance, or if he had been detained in the emergency room we would have lost him. Life is hard, but God is so good!!!!

Saturday, July 23 - The heart surgeon was in this evening and gave us some promising news. Although Jerry has had some fluttering and abnormal rhythms today with his heart, the heart surgeon felt that his heart and mitral valve were doing well. He did remark that Jerry will be feeling pretty miserable for the next few weeks, but that will be do to his infection and difficulties with his stomach and colon. At 8:30 P.M. this evening they removed his breathing tube. He is now on an oxygen mask. He continues to have a temperature. Because of his past history with alergies, a specialist has been called in to help with determining new antibiotics. Jerry is more alert today. His vital stats are unremarkable. However, he will continue to remain in the ICU for at least another week. We appreciate your support and know that Jerry is comforted by your prayers. He continues to get stronger every hour. God has been with us through this critical time. We will continue to keep you updated. You are in our prayers as well.

Jerry was taken to Forbes Hospital on Friday, July 22 by ambulance due to symptoms of a heart attack. While being treated for the heart attack he was given a variety of tests in the emergency room, including a CAT scan that revealed a large mass on his colon. (This apparently was the reason for the heart attack.) The doctors felt that the mass needed to be removed immediately. Jerry was admitted to the ICU for several hours until his heart was stable from his heart attack. He was then taken for emergency surgery to remove the mass on his colon which the doctors suspected was cancerous. Despite the numerous risks, his problem was life threatening and the only real option was surgery. The surgery was very successful. Although he will have a colostomy for 2-3 months, the doctors do not feel that mass is cancerous; however, they will have the biopsy results in about 4-5 days. The doctors feel that it may have been due to diverticulitis. Jerry will need to have surgery in a few months to reverse the colostomy. He appears to be recovering from his heart attack. Thankfully he had no bleeding during the surgery. The doctors plan to wean him off the ventilator support tomorrow. Please continue to pray for his full recovery and absence of complications. Our family appreciates your prayers and continued support. This weekend Paul Libengood will be covering Manor Church, Dorothy Logan will be covering Penn Church and Beverly Piper will be covering the Trafford Church. Please pray for them as they lead worship this Sunday. Let us remember to pray for the ministry of our churches. Let us also continue to keep each other up in prayer. Love, Peace and Joy, Darlene

My kids study in a christian school, before they join this school, my older kid had a emotion problem, he was kick out by the school, actually, he is a good boy. After he joined this school, he changed, he could control himself, thank God, six months later, he and my family became christian until now,( nearly 4 years ). We love this school, but now, our finance dropped, we cannot support the fees, and my kids may have to leave from this school, this is not our will, because, if they leave this school, it means we have to find another school and Church, since the school and the Church are in the same location, so when they go to the Church, they will see their classmate, I'm afraid they will feel sad. Now I need miracle, only God can create miracle. God bless you all! p.s. school inform us to pay in next week or we leave the school. I really need your help, please pray for us.
