Today's Bible Reading...

Bible application    October 31 , 2005     Luke   23-24

Questions:
1. “That very day_______ and______ became friends with each other, for previously they had been at enmity with each other.” (23:12)
2. “Now as they led Him away, they laid hold of a certain man______ a---------------, who was coming from the country, and on him they laid the cross that he might bear it after Jesus.” (23:26)
3. “Then ______ said, ‘Father forgive them, for they do not know what they do.’ And they divided His garments and cast lots.” (23:34)
4. “And Jesus said to him, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with_____ in paradise.’” (23:43)
5. “But they found the______ rolled away from the tomb.”(24:2)
6. “He is not_______, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee.’” (24:6)
7. “Then he said to them, ‘Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the________ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.’” (24:46-47)

Chapter 23 - Jesus prays for His enemies
Chapter 24 - Christ’s resurrection and ascension.

What do we learn from these passages?

1. How many times do we join forces with our enemies for the sole purpose of achieving our own goal?  Do we think this is ever justified?
2. Have we ever been called upon to bear an unwanted punishment, physically  or mentally because of the conduct of someone else’s unjust punishment?
3. Forgiving someone who has injured you is sometimes difficult but it is the greatest force of love and reconciliation ever known for it permits us to once again become loyal friends.
4. If God can forgive His enemies for inflicting such a cruel and unjust death upon Jesus, can we not forgive the little hurts inflicted upon us by friend or foe?
5. “He is not here, He is Risen” has always been the cry of Christians who have accepted the fact of His death as the death of their own sins and the promise that we shall, one day, rise to be with Him forever in Heaven.
6. To many of that day, the words of Christ’s resurrection had been denied.  Is this not true today?   Are we part of a generation of unbelievers?  How about me personally?
Am I a part of the unbelieving generation?
7.  The greatest commitment that Christ asks of us today is to repeat His call of repentance from sin so that all people can hear His command. How faithful is my church in fulfilling this commission?  How faithful am I?

Prayer:
Dear God, Help us to always remember that you have claimed us as Your children, not only that we may go to Heaven, but that we would continue to call all generations to repentance and turning from sin. Amen.
