When Elisha and the company of prophets were cutting down trees, one prophet lost his borrowed axhead in the water. Elisha caused the iron axhead to float. When Elisha and his servant were surrounded by Arameans, the prophet told his servant not to fear. The servant's eyes were opened and he saw the armies of heaven, horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. The Arameans were blinded and then healed and allowed to return to their master. Famine came to Samaria. Four men with leprosy decided to go to the camp of the Arameans to surrender. In that way they would not starve to death. When they got to the camp they found that God had caused the Arameans to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a great army. They fled and abandoned their tents, possessions, horses and donkeys. Samaria shared the plunder. After the seven years of famine the Shunammite lady returned with her family from the land of the Philistines. The king restored her property and income from her land to her. Hazael went to Elisha on behalf of the king. Elisha wept. He knew that Hazael would bring much harm to the Israelites. Hazael would become king of Aram. The next day Hazael murdered the king and succeeded him.

What can we learn from these verses?

1. The prophet lost the borrowed axhead and God returned it to him. God cares about the little things of life. Pray about everything.
2. The servant's eyes were opened and he saw heaven's army around him. God's angels are always around us protecting us and fighting on our behalf.
3. The king's officer didn't believe that God could provide the food that Elisha suggested. Nothing is impossible for God!
4. The lepers found the abandoned Aramean camp. They were saved. They shared the good news so that others could be saved.
5. Jehoshaphat arranged the marriage of his son, Jehoram, to Athaliah, the daughter of Ahab and Jezebel. Athaliah brought Baal worship to Judah. The marriage may have had political advantages but it brought spiritual decline to Judah. Don't be unequally yoked with nonbelievers.

Prayer: God, help me to come to you even with little things. Open my eyes so that I can see your hand at work. Help me to share your blessings with others. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
