(29:3)

10. What did the priests do with the blood handed to them by the Levites?
(30:16)
These stories are also told in II Kings 16-20. A very wicked king, Ahaz cast
idols for worshiping the Baals. He even sacrificed his own sons. Therefore God
handed him over to the king of Aram (Syria) and Israel. The Edomites and
Philistines also attacked. When Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria came, he brought
trouble instead of help. Hezekiah began his reign with a wondeful reformation.
In the first month of the first year of his reign he began to repair the temple.
He invited all of Israel and Judah to celebrate the Passover. There was great
joy in Jerusalem. There had been nothing like this in Jerusalem since the
time of Solomon. It had been more than 200 years since there had been such a
celebration.
What can we learn from these verses?
1. Hezekiah ordered the temple to be opened and repaired. He instructed the
priests to consecrate themselves. We must first prepare ourselves before we can
expect revival.
2. The blood sprinkled on the altar represented the innocence of the sacrificed
animal that took the place of the guilt of the person making the offering. The
animal died so that the sinner could live. Jesus Christ was God's perfect Son.
His innocent life was our one time sacrifice for our sins.
3. Hezekiah sent a proclamation to the people who remained in Israel after the
Assyrian invasion. Most of the people scorned and ridiculed the couriers. Be
prepared to be scorned and ridiculed for your faith. Stay strong.
4. Some people did accept the invitation. Continue to reach out. God's Spirit
will convict. Our job is simply to deliver the invitation and present the
message.
5. When the people turned to God they experienced joy.
Prayer: God, send a mighty revival in our land. Start your Spirit moving in me.
In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
