Today's Bible Reading...

May 2 - II Kings 4-5

Questions:

1. What almost happened to a prophet's 2 sons when the prophet died? (4:10)
2. What was the only material asset the widow had? (4:2)
3. What did Elisha tell the woman to do?
4. What did the well-to-do woman of Shunem make for Elisha? (4:9)
5. How did Elisha reward the woman of Shunem who had an old husband and no son? (4:16)
6. What happened to the son of the Shunem woman and what did Elisha do? (4:18-30)
7. What did Elisha do when he was told there was death in the pot? (4:36-41)
8. How many people did Elisha feed with 20 loaves of barley bread? (4:42-44)
9. Who went to Elisha to be healed of Leprosy? (5:4-18)
10. What did Gehazi do and what was his punishment? (5:20-27)

Elijah did numerous miracles. He made oil multiply so that a widow could sell it and pay her debts so that her sons would not become slaves. He restored the Shunammite's son to life. He saved the company of prophets from poisonous stew. He fed 100 men with 20 small loaves of bread. He healed Naaman from Leprosy. These miracles showed God's care for the faithful.

What can we learn from these verses?

1. The widow and her sons collected jars from their neighbors. The number of jars were an indication of their faith. When you think of God's blessings and what God is able to do, think big!
2. The Shunammite woman was kind to Elisha because she recognized him as a man of God. How can you help the people of God? You will share in their reward and be blessed.
3. A young girl told Naaman's wife about Elisha. God places us at the right place, at the right time to be of service to God. Look for opportunities where you are to share the good news of Christ. You are where you are for a reason and a season.
4. Naaman was used to getting respect. He needed to humble himself before he could be healed. Humble yourself before God. Obey God's commands and expect a miracle.
5. Naaman had trouble believing in such a simple cure. Don't allow disbelief to get in the way of a miracle.
6. Elisha refused Naaman's money. God's favor can't be bought.
7. Gehazi saw the opportunity to benefit from Naaman's offer. He thought he could make money off of God's free gift of healing.
8. Gehazi lied and tried to cover up his sin. He suffered the consequences.

Prayer: God help me to turn to you in my hour of need. Help me to be ready to expect a miracle. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
