Today's Bible Reading...
March 21 - Joshua 22-24
Chapter 22 - The tribes have finished their military responsibility and are called home. Joshua reminds them of their spiritual responsibility and their need to always be obedient to God. Some of the tribes build an altar and the rest of the tribes think they are rebelling against God. Phinehas went to find out the truth. The altar was to remind them that they all worshiped the same God.
Chapter 23 - Joshua's farewell address
Chapter 24 - Covenant Renewal at Shechem
What do we learn from these chapters?
1. Never forget who and whose you are.
2. Always be sure of your facts before you start a fight.
3. Never assume the worst.
4. Don't react, respond.
5. Be strong, be careful to obey God.
6. Follow God's commands.
7. Stay away from pagan influence - don't associate with, don't intermarry with pagans.
8. Hold fast to the Lord your God.
9. Don't invoke the names of gods or swear by them.
10. Don't honor, bow down to, serve other gods.
11. Don't confuse God's patience with God's indifference to our sins.
12. We must make a choice of who or what will control us.
13. Destroy the foreign gods --- whatever they may be for us.
14. Israel was to be a holy nation that would influence the rest of the world for God. We are called to be holy people with a mission to influence the world for God.
15. "As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord" (24:15) Who is in charge of your household? Is God honored and obeyed?
God, Help me not to jump to conclusions. Help me to seek the truth. Help me to be faithful only to you. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
