Today's Bible Reading...

March 20 - Joshua 20-21

Chapter 20 - Cities are set aside.

Cities of refuge were designated. The purpose was to prevent injustice especially in cases of revenge. A person could flee to a city of refuge and stay there until he could be assured of a fair trial. The Levites were in charge of these cities. (see Numbers 35:6; 35:11-28)

Chapter 21 - The Levites received towns.

The Levites were the ministers and so they received towns instead of land.
Chapter 21 ends with "Not one of all the Lord's good promises to the house of Israel failed; every one was fulfilled."

What can we learn from these chapters?

1. God is fair and just and expects us to be the same. Everyone is entitled to a fair trial.

2. God was faithful in fulfilling every promise. We need to keep our promises.

3. God fulfills promises on God's timetable not ours. Be patient.

God, help me not to prejudge people. Help me to work for justice and fairness for all people. May I be true to the promises I make. In the name of Jesus. Amen
