Today's Bible Reading...

March 12 Deuteronomy 32-34

After Moses finished writing God's Words in a Book (chapter 31) he composed a song for the people to sing. In Exodus 15 he wrote a song about their deliverance from Egypt. He wrote another song known as the 90th Psalm.

The song recorded in Chapter 32 gives a brief history of Israel. It reminded them of their mistakes and warned them to avoid repeating them. God cared for the Israelites like a loving shepherd. God guarded them, provided for them, lead them. Still they abandoned God.

Songs are among the best means of enhancing worship. They serve as a wonderful teaching tool. Christian music spreads the ideas for which we stand.

1. Do you have the gift of music? How can you use it to bring glory to God?

In Chapter 33 Moses gives his Blessings. The tribes are called by name and predictions about each one are given. This is similar to Jacob's Blessing on his sons in Genesis 49.

1. Notice the difference in the blessings. Sometimes we see a certain blessing and think that God must love one person more than another. We have a tendency to think some gifts are better than others. God gives different talents to people to be used for the edification of all. Don't be envious of what others have. Look for the abilities God has given to you and then be generous with them. You are the steward in charge of the gifts God has given to you. Pray for God's guidance in using them. Remember that God's gifts are not to be used just for your own enjoyment, but they are given to help you do the Lord's work.

2. Moses declares that God is our refuge, our only true security. Can you count on an army, on money, career, other people? Our only true refuge is God.

In Chapter 34 we have the death of Moses. At 120 years of age he climbed Mt. Pisgah and viewed the Promised Land. He longed to go there, but God had a better plan. God took him home to be with him.

1. Moses was not allowed to enter the promised land because he disobeyed God (Numbers 20:12). We all sometimes disobey God. The result is that God must discipline us. Notice that God still called Moses a friend. When God disciplines you, take it, realize you deserve it. Don't turn away from God in anger, embarrassment and resentment. Turn toward God with love and be determined to be more loving and obedient.

2. Moses was the person who didn't want to go to Egypt because he was slow of speech (Exodus 4:10). He delivered the 3 sermons to the people recorded in Deuteronomy. God changed Moses from a stuttering shepherd into a national leader. He delivered a nation of three million people safely to the promised land.

Moses appeared at the Transfiguration of Jesus (Matthew 17, Mark 9, Luke 9) where he represented the Law. There's life after death.

God, I don't feel like I have much to offer you, but I give you all of me. Please take me and fulfill in me the plan you have for my life. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
