Today's Bible Reading...

March 1 Deuteronomy 1-2

The word "Deuteronomy" means "Second Law," or "Repetition of the Law."
Laws have already been given in Exodus, Leviticus and Numbers.

The Israelites have just spent 40 years on a journey that should have lasted only 11 days. The Israelites are on the plains of Moab ready to enter the Promised Land. On the eve of their entrance into Canaan Moses transfers his leadership to Joshua and gives his final instructions to the people. The book ends with the death of Moses.

In this great book you will find the following:

1:19-46 Review of Rebellion
4:1-14 Obedience Commanded
5:1-33 The Ten Commandments
6:1-25 The Great Commandment
8:1-20 Do Not Forget the Lord
11:1-32 Love and Obey God
13:1-18 Worshiping Other gods
19:1-19 Cities of Refuge
23:1-25:19 Various Laws
28:15-68 Various Curses
30:11-20 Life or Death
31:30-32:43 Song of Moses
34:1-12 Death of Moses

Life Applications for Deuteronomy 1 and 2:

1. There is a time to wait and a time to get up and go.

2. God will tell you when and where you should go.

3. Never be too comfortable where you are. You need to move forward.

4. God does God's part and now we must do ours.

5. Reviewing the past helps us to prepare for the future.

6. We must remind ourselves and teach our children God's laws.

7. Know what God's expects of you.

8. The Israelites learned that obeying God's laws bring blessings and disobeying brings misfortune.

9. Though we are not under this covenant, we know that obedience and disobedience carry consequences in this life and the next.

10. Avoid mistakes in your life by learning from Israel's failures.

11. Each generation and each person must respond to God's call for obedience.

12. Our choices today will determine our tomorrow.

13. Quality teaching of God's truth to our children should be a priority.

14. In your spiritual journey you will face times of trials, discouragement and pain. This is part of your preparation for service and devotion. (Christian Boot Camp)

15. Use this wilderness time to study and pray. (Lent is Spring Training for Christians!)

16. God will give you helpers to assist you when you need them. Don't try to do all the work yourself. Be willing to give leadership and responsibility to others.
Train new leaders!

17.Good leaders have wisdom, understanding and respect.

18.The spies were not sent into the land to determine whether they should enter, but where they should enter. After hearing the report the people were afraid to go.  God gives us the power to overcome our obstacles, but like the Israelites we can often be overcome with fear and skepticism.

19. Focus on the positive - on God's promises and power. Move out in faith.

20. Pick your battles. Only fight God's battles. These are the ones you will win.

21. Don't make your journey in life harder by disobeying God. Accept God's love and plan for your life.

22.God is going to go before you today and help you in your daily battles. God will prepare the way
for you. Follow God with your whole heart and be sensitive to God's leading.

God, Give me the courage and strength to follow your guidance today. Help me to walk in obedience to your will for my life. In the name of Jesus.
Amen.
