Chapter 25 - The Families of Abraham and isaac
Chapter 26 - Isaac’s Life
Chapter 27 - Jacob tricks his father for the firstborn blessing
What do we learn from this lesson?
1. Family life has always had its joys and its sorrows. After Sarah’s death,
Abraham remarries and has six children. Ishmael had twelve children, and Isaac
had twin boys. This reveals to us that even though there were many more children
related to Abraham, Isaac was still the promised son who would receive the
rewards of the covenant God made with Abraham.
2. Isacc was married 20 years before he became a father. We learn that things
don’t always happen the way we plan. God has a plan for each of us and we must
not become discouraged if we have to wait 20 years or more for the answer.
3. Isaac had twin sons. His wife was warned that the eldest would serve the
youngest. We learn how Jacob arranged to receive this promise. He bought the
birthright from Esau and then tricked his father into giving him the blessing.
The Bible tells both the good and bad in family life. Even Jacob’s mother helped
to deceive his father. This resulted in Jacob’s mother never seeing her son
again because he had to leave home. Cheating and Lying is always wrong.
4. Even isaac lies to the Philistine King and tells him that his wife is his
sister because he was afraid. If Isaac had listened to God and stayed where he
was, he would not have gotten into trouble. It pays to listen to God.
5. The most important lesson of these three chapters, I think, is that it shows
even people who are called by God for a special work, can sin.
“All have sinned and came short of the glory of God.” Therefore, we must be very
careful and lean heavily upon God through prayer and Bible study so that we do
not sin and if we do sin to immediately ask for forgiveness.
Prayer:
Dear Jesus, Help us to be aware of the temptations we face and help us to
overcome them through Your help. Help us to be good examples to our children and
all those whose lives we touch. Amen.
