Chapter 10 - Family tree of Noah’s tree sons
Chapter 11 - Nimrod the hunter and the Babel tower
Chapter 12 - Family tree from Shem to Abraham
What do we learn from this lesson?
1. A lot of people today are interested in searching their family trees. It was
very important that the Old Testament recorded the genealogy of Jesus since the
Jewish believers would demand proof that Jesus had a right to the Messianic
throne. Jesus is a descendant of Abraham and of David with clear right to His
throne.
2. How do you think God felt when He looked down from Heaven and saw this great
effort of men trying to make himself god-like? However, God is always in charge.
He divides men by language barriers and scatters them abroad and the tower was
never finished.
3. God instructed Abram to leave his home and go to a land that God would show
him. Would we be willing to leave our homeland, our family, and our friends to
follow God wherever He chose to take us? That would require a lot of faith on
our part.
4. Abram didn’t question God. He left Ur, with its security and high standard of
living to follow God’s leading. We need to heed God’s directions and follow Him
wherever He may lead us.
5. Hunger forces Abram into Egypt. Fear leads him to ask his wife to lie and say
she is his sister. However, God intervenes and sends plagues and Abraham is
forced to leave Egypt and continue his journey. This tells us never to lie. It
is breaking one of God’s commandments.
Prayer:
Dear Jesus, Forgive us when we let fear dominate our lives. Help us to trust You
completely and follow where you lead us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
