What can we learn from this lesson?
1. It is easier to get Israel out of Egypt than to get Egypt out of Israel.
2. Israel wanted the old familiar gods they could see and shape into whatever
they
wanted them to be. We still try to shape God into the likeness we want God to
be.
3. Egyptian gods, Hapi (Apis) and Hathor were a bull and a heifer. The
Canaanites
worshipped Baal (bull).
4. The ban on ornaments/jewelry was a temporary sign of mourning.
5. Although our faces may not light up so we need a veil, still our lives can be
changed
by prayer, Bible reading and meditating so that people around us can know that
we have
been with God.
6. To check for gods, look at your check book and your calendar. Who/what do you
serve most?
7. Intercessory prayer will change things and bring deliverance.
Prayer: Gracious God, Help us to honor and worship you above all. Help us
discern the
gods around us. Help us to give you all praise and glory. In the name of Jesus
we pray. Amen.
