Bible Application - January 27 - Exodus 29-31

1. How were the people consecrated so they could serve as priests? (29:1) 2. Which family was chosen for the priesthood? (29:9) 3. What did the people need to pay when Moses took a census. (30:11) 4. For what was the atonement money used? (30:16) 5. What did Aaron and his sons need to do whenever they entered the Tent of Meeting?
(30:17-20)
6. To whom did God choose to give special skills in order to do the work?
(31:1-11)

What can we learn from this lesson?
1. We need to recognized the otherness of God - God is the "absolute other." God is
holy. God is not a "buddy." Show reverence to God.
2. Worship was not meant to be casual. We need to prepare for worship. We need to prepare
ourselves to meet with God. We need to prepare our hearts and our
minds.
3. You may worship God on a river bank, but notice that that is not where God wants
you to worship. We can't worship God on our terms.
4. "Sabbath" in Hebrew means "cease," "abstain," the secondary meaning is "rest."
5. God is not an absentee landlord. God is always present.
6. God gives us gifts and abilities to do God's work.
7. These detailed rituals differentiated the Hebrews from the Canaanites.
8. The sacrifice for sins offered on the Day of Atonement served to remind the people that
the sacrifices were only temporary. It pointed to Jesus, the perfect atonement, who
would remove our sins forever.
9. The atonement money was like a census tax. It was the same for all people. The rich
people couldn't buy off God and the poor people could not avoid paying it. We all
need to be forgiven and brought into God's family.

Gracious God, help us to never take You for granted. Help us not to be casual in our worship. May we honor the Sabbath and keep it holy. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
