Chapter - Genesis 49 - Jacob blesses his sons
Chapter - Genesis 50 - The Mourning for jacob
Chapter - Exodus 1 - Destruction of all male children

What do we learn from this lesson?
1. Following tradition, Jacob blesses his sons. This is not unusual. It is practiced even in some countries today. One by one, each son is told what to expect in the days and years ahead of him. Jacob knew his sons well. How well do we know our children? How well do I know myself?
Do I have established goals in my life, or am I going day by day, letting God lead way or is it haphazard way? The Bible says our paths are in God’s hands but it is up to us to trust Him for guidance.
2. There is nothing like guilty fears from past sins and the consequences of our sins. Would it not had been more comforting if they had confessed their sins to their Father? To live with such sin is a terrible thing. Be sure your sin will find you out.
3. Joseph did not even ask them to ask for forgiveness. He just told them it was OK. It was all God’s plan. God is more willing to forgive us of our sin then we are to ask for forgiveness. But He wants to hear our confession to Him so that He may be sure we are aware of our sin.
4. Now the Israelites experience a new phase in their lives. From freedom to slavery. It is like we who leave the teaching of Christ and the church and go off to make a new life for ourselves, only to realize how difficult life can be with home, friends, family and the church gone. How much better that we let God order our paths for us?

Prayer:
Dear Lord, Help us to appreciate the fact that you have the power to help us work out our own life. When we fail, please, send an angel, chosen by You. to call us back to the paths you have chosen for us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
