Today's Bible Reading...
Bible Application - Leviticus 19-21 Feb. 8
Questions:
1. Why should we be holy? (19:1)
2. Who should we avoid? (19:31)
3. What was the penalty for cursing your parents? (20:9)
WHAT DO WE LEARN FROM THESE CHAPTERS?
1. It is good for us to compare I Peter 1:15-16 with Leviticus 19:1. God is Holy
and we are to reflect His holiness.
2. It is important to respect our parents and keep the Sabbath holy.
3 We are to remember the poor, be honest, have fair dealings with our fellowmen
and have respect for life and reputation. We can find similar rules in the
Beatitudes. James 2:8, and the Golden Rule, Matthew 22:39.
4. There is a wide range of offenses in these chapters that are punishable by
death. Note that the offenses listed are either in deliberate defiance of God’s
holy law, or offenses against people--nor property.
5. Chapter 21 contained rules for the priests. The rules for the high priest was
even more strict. No one with any physical defect was allowed to serve as a
priest although he was allowed to share in the food.
6. As God looks down on us today, He must be very sad that so many people
disregard His rules when He intended them for our own good.
Our Father in heaven, forgive us for our sins and help us to obey Your holy
laws. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
