Today's Bible Reading...

Bible Application Numbers 16-18 February 20

Questions:
1. They gathered together against _________ and ________ and said to them, ‘you take too much upon yourselves, for all he congregation is holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the assembly of the Lord?’” (16:3)
2. “and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them up, with their households and all the men with _________, with all their goods.” (16:32)
2. “Now it came to pass on the next day that ____________ went into the tabernacle of witness, and behold, the rod of Aaron, of the house of Levi, had sprouted and put forth buds, had produced blossoms and yielded ripe almonds.” (17:8)
4. “Then the Lord said to _______, “You shall have no inheritance in their land, nor shall you have any portion among them, I am your portion and your inheritance among the children of Israel.” (18:20)

Chapter 16 - Rebellion of Korah
Chapter 17 - Aaron’s rod blooms
Chapter 18 - The Portions of the Levities

What do we learn from these chapters?
1. The sons of Korah were very prominent in the work of the Tabernacle. In fact, eleven of the Psalms were contributed to them. Yet, one day, they rebelled against Moses. They claimed Moses was taking too much responsibility, and perhaps too much praise for himself. Is this not true in many churches today? Jealousy raises its head many times, much to the detriment of the whole body.
2. In chapter 16, we learn of the devastating consequences of jealousy. Death was the reward for those who defied the choice of the Lord. Today, death does not destroy individuals who become jealous of other people in the church but such jealousies always have an ill effect on the whole church, and quenches the Spirit of the work in the church.
3. God has a strange way, at times, in choosing who shall be placed over the care of the church. Aaron’s rod bloomed, signifying his authority. Today, God chooses people whom he cultivates, educates and blesses them to be His servants. Happy and prosperous is the church who rebels not but who wholeheartedly supports those leaders placed in various places of leadership within the local church.
4. We also learn that a great command was given to the Levities. They were to handle carefully the trust given to them in offering the sacrifices and in the care of the temple. We should always remember to handle things the right way as leaders in the church.

Prayer:
Dear Lord, May we always be Your obedient servants, handling the things committed to us in the right way and as worshippers and as servants over whom Thou has placed us, that worshipping together, they may see our church grow and become a pleasant place in the community and one in which they can gather together to worship Thee. Amen.
