Today's Bible Reading...

Bible Application Numbers 12-13 February 18

Questions:
1. “And when the ___________ departed from above the tabernacle, suddenly Miriam became leprous, as white as snow. Then Aaron turned toward Miriam, and there she was a leper.” (12:10)
2.”Send _____ to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel, from each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a leader among them.” (13:2)
3. “Then they came to the ______ of _____________, and there cut down a branch of grapes; they carried it between two of them on a pole. They also brought some of the pomegranates and figs.” (13:24)
4. “And they gave the children of Israel a _________ report of the land which they had spied out, saying, ‘the land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature.” (13:32)

Chapter 12 - Leprosy, the penalty of incurring God’s wrath
Chapter 13 - Searching out the Promised Land

What do we learn from this lesson?
1. We find the devastating consequences of jealousy and self-exaltationin. Chapter 12:2, seven days of leprosy was a high penalty to pay, but we must always remember that we have a God who forgives and also heals our diseases but if we go against God, there is a penalty to pay.
2. Any wise leader wants to know what lies ahead or what his people are likely to confront on their journey. To spy out the land was the command of God. Twelve men were chosen. They were leaders of Israel. One from each tribe. They all saw a fruitful land which was filled with milk and honey. It was a good land and a fit dwelling place for the people of Israel.
3. While all saw the goodness of the land, some saw only the giants. Is this not so with many of us today? We see the good future but we all see the problems and our hearts are turned to fear of the future.
4. We can be grateful for the minority report that said, “It is still worth fighting for”. As we look at our world today with its rising crime rate, drug problem, alcohol abuse, floods, dry spells, and many other things taking place in the world today; when it causes us to say “all is gone, there is no use to try to turn the nation around”, or are we able to say, “Sure there are problems but by God’s grace, we can still possess the land and make it a land for the people of God.”

Prayer:
Dear God, help us to recognize the giants of our lives as opportunities to test our worth as to whether we are a proper people to inherit the land that offers so much freedom, privacy, and benefits to the brave at heart. Amen
