Today's Bible Reading...

Bible Application Numbers 3-4 February 13

Questions:
1. “Now behold, I Myself have taken the _______________ from among the children of Israel instead of eery firstborn who opens the womb among the children of Israel. Therefore the Levities shall be Mine.” (3:12)
2. “Then the Lord said to Moses, “Number all the _________________ males of the children of Israel from a month old and above, and take the number of their names.” (3:40)
3. “”When the _____ prepares to journey, Aaron and his sons shall come, and they shall take down the covering veil and cover the ark of the Testimony with it.” (4:5)
4. “This is the ___________ of the families of the Gershonites, in serving and carrying.” (4:25)

Chapter 3 - Service of the Levities
Chapter 4 - Office and Responsibilities of the Priest

What do we learn from these chapters?
1. The Levities were the tribe chosen by God, through Moses, to be the caretakers of the Tabernacle, the place where God directed the spiritual and civil work and organizational process of the tribe through his priest. The tribe of Levi was chosen, perhaps, because of their zeal in destroying those who had corrupted the worship by worshipping the golden calf a long time ago.
2. When God destroyed the first born child of Egypt, He claimed for Himself, all the first born child of Israel. He said, “the Levities shall be mine.” But the Levities were chosen by God instead of the first born of all of Israel. This was a smaller group and enough to carry on the work of the Tabernacle.
3. Each tribe concentrated on moving the Tabernacle which was a tremendous task. All must be properly handled and taken care of. All were precious and holy and one who mishandled the sacred things of the Tabernacle would die.
4. Is not this the way we Christians should be? Handling the things of God in a proper way, whether it be the altar, or the furnishings of the church. Also we must be careful to treat the poor, the helpless and the old with dignity. We are their caretakers and it behooves us to do our work well for one day it will too be brought before us in Judgment.
5. One thing is clear. Each had his own task to perform. Today, as then, it is in working together as a church, we will present to the world an image of a picture of wholesome family life.

Prayer:
Dear God, Help us to learn the great truths from this lesson. Working together we shall succeed whether it be a church, a family or a nation. Keep loving us, we pray, so that we bring honor to You by our service. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
