Bible Application - Leviticus 24-25 Feb. 10
Questions:
1. What type of fuel did they use in the Lamp in the Tabernacle? (24:2)
2. How long was this lamp to burn? (24:3)
3. What was the punishment for blasphemy? (24:16)
4. What was the year of Jubilee? (25:10)
5. How were they to treat a slave? (25:43)
What do we learn from these chapters
1. Chapter 24 instructs the Israelites on two regular duties. The Lamp in the
Tabernacle that was to be kept burning and the weekly offering of 12 loaves, one
loaf representing each tribe. We need to take care of our churches.
2. We learn that there was only one law for both Israelite and resident
foreigners. Punishment was severe when you cursed God. They were to kill him by
stoning. What if this law was still enforced in our land? Are we as careful as
we should be in our language or do we use words that should be avoided?
3. God told them to let the land rest one year out of seven and it would produce
enough food to last through this rest period. Later, God instituted the Year of
Jubilee where the land would revert to its original owner. It was a time when
those who had became poor were given their freedom from slavery and property
restored.
4. The Year of Jubilee should remind us that the land belongs to God. We also
learn that we should provide for the poor among us. If we look, we can always
find ways to help our neighbor whether the neighbor lives across the street or
across the oceans.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, Teach us to persevere in hard times by keeping our eyes on Jesus and
help us to be generous with our possessions. Help us to remember that You are
always with us, and that Your grace is sufficient for every trial. In Jesus’
name we pray. Amen
