Today's Bible Reading...

August 19, Jeremiah 19-22

Questions:

1. Why did the Lord tell Jeremiah to get a Potter’s earthen flask? (19:2-4)

2. What was the Lord going to do to the people of Judah? (19:5-9)

3. What warning did Jeremiah issue? Why? (19:15)

4. Who was Pashhur and what did he do to Jeremiah?

5. What was Pashhur’s punishment? (20:6)

6. What was Jeremiah’s complaint to the Lord? (20:7-18)

7. When King Zedekiah sent men to Jeremiah to inquire of him the fate of Jerusalem, what was Jeremiah’s answer? (21:2-7)

8. Verse 8 can be applied to all people. “Thus says the Lord, ‘Behold, I set before you the way of _____and the way of _____”. (21:8)

9. Where does Jeremiah go to speak the word in Chapter 22.2?

10. Jeremiah also has a message for the Sons of ________. (22:18)

Chapter 19 - Message at the Potsherd Gate Chapter 20 - Jeremiah’s treatment by Pashhur and Jeremiah’s complaint to the Lord Chapter 21 - Warning to Jerusalem concerning pending doom Chapter 22 - Message to David’s House and Josiah’s sons

What do we learn?

1. In Chapter 21, we reflect on the potter’s earthen flask and realize it is a symbol of God’s Judgment. It is broken in the sight of men and Jeremiah told them the Lord said he would do the same to “this place”.
What symbols do you think God is using today?

2. Some times God’s prophets were tried to the end of their own strength. Jeremiah reached the point where he cursed the day he was born. (20:14) We can learn that each of us will be tested, some more than others.

3. Chapter 21 is a very sad chapter because the destruction of Jerusalem is certain. The Lord said He would punish them according to the “fruit of your doing” (21:14) What do you think His warning would be to all the nations today?

4. Jeremiah goes to the House of David and tells them to heed the word of the Lord or be punished. (Chapter 22)

5. We learn that none of us can hide from God.

Precious Lord, We need you desperately today. Our nation and its people need to put our trust in You. Please, Lord, do not destroy us in our sins but forgive us and help us to depend on You to save our nation from destruction. Help all of us to heed Your warnings! Thank you. We Praise You! In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
