Questions:
1. What did Ahab want that belonged to Naboth? (21:2)
2. Why did Naboth refuse to give it to Ahab? (21:3)
3. What did Jezebel do to help Ahab get what he wanted? (21:8-15)
4. What happened to Naboth? (21:13)
5. What did Elijah say to Ahab? (21:17-28)
6. What happened to Jezebel? (21:22)
7. Why did the King of Israel hate Micalah? (22:8)
8. What was Micalah's prophecy? (22:17)
9. What did the Lord put into the mouths of the prophets? (22:23)
10. What happened to the king of Israel in the battle? (22:34)
Ahab wanted the vineyard that belonged to Naboth. Naboth refused to
give it to him.
Jezebel, the wife of Ahab, plotted to get the vineyard for Ahab. Because of
their sin,
the word of the Lord came to Elijah. He told Elijah about the disaster that
would consume
his descendants. Dogs would devour Jezebel.
Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, and Ahab, the king of Israel decided to join forces and
retake Ramoth Gilead from the king of Aram. All but one of the prophets
told them to go
to battle. Micaiah said he saw all Israel scattered on the hills like sheep
without a
shepherd. The Lord said, "These people have no master. Let each one go
home in peace."
He suggested that Ahab would be enticed to attack Ramoth Gilead and meet his
death there
because of a lying spirit. This happened. The book of I. Kings closes with
the death of
Jehoshaphat, and Jehoram, his son, succeeding him as kind of Judah. Ahaziah
son of Ahab,
became the king of Israel.
What can we learn from these verses?
1. Ahab's rage turned to hatred and led to murder. Beware of uncontrolled
anger and
greed. One sin leads to another.
2. When Ahab heard Elijah's words he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth
and fasted.
God took note and did not bring the disaster on Ahab in his day. God is
waiting for
us to repent so that God can forgive us.
3. When we join forces with unbelievers we find ourselves in trouble.
Jehoshaphat
wanted to follow God but Ahab did not. They ended up following only the
pagan
prophets.
4. Don't listen to people who only tell you what they think you want to
hear. Listen
only to God's word.
5. Ahab thought he would be safe if he disguised himself in the battle. We
can't
escape God's judgment.
Prayer: Help me to use wisdom when I choose my friends and careful of whom
I ask advice.
In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
