6. Who was at war again? (21:15)
7. Who was Isbi-Benob and what did he say he would do? (21:15-16)
8. Who was Abishai? (21:17)
9. What happened to Isbi-Benob? (21:17)
10. Who was David's "rock, fortress and deliverer"? (22:2)

The Gibeonites had suffered at the hands of Saul. Israel had entered into a pact to protect the Gibeonites but Saul had ignored it and instead brutalized them. Years passed without justice being done. God finally got the attention of Israel by sending a drought. David sought the reason for the drought and found that God was punishing them because of the broken vow. David corrected the wrong and the drought stopped. "God answered prayer in behalf of the land." David sang to the Lord who delivered him from the hands of his enemies and from the land of
Saul.

What can we learn from these verses:

1. Sin effects the future and casts a shadow on other people. For 3 years the Israelites experienced drought because of Saul's sin against the Gibeonites. Consider the consequences of your actions. How will they impact the lives of others?
2. Saul had slain the Gibeonites in "his zeal for the Lord." Zeal without obedience will bring sorrow.
3. Saul had hurt the Gibeonites. Years later his people had to pay for his sin.
4. David saw the love of Rizpah. He quickly provided a proper burial for the sons of Saul. Love moves us to do the right thing.
5. Once the Gibeonites received their justice, God answered the nation's prayers. Justice must be done so that the nation may thrive.

Prayer: God, help me to remember that consequences for sin will come even if it it slow in coming. Help me to always keep the promises I make. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
