Today's Bible Reading...
April 1 - I Samuel 1-3
Questions:
1. Who was Hannah? (1:2)
2. Who was Elkanah? (1:1)
3. Who was Peninnah? (1:2)
4. What vow did Hannah make at Shiloh (1:11)
5. Who accused her of being drunk and what was her response (1:17-18)
6. Who were the priest's sons, who also served as priests in Shiloh (1:3,
2:34)
7. Though Samuel was placed in the care of Eli, Hannah really had lent her
son
(forever) to whom? (1:27)
8. How many additional children did Hannah conceive? (2:21)
9. Who called Samuel and how? (3)
10. What was the prophecy against the house of Eli? (2:30-36)
Samuel was a prophet (3:20) who served as a priest (7:9), and he judged
Israel
(7:15-17). He is called the last judge and the first prophet and founder of
the
monarchy. He was the spiritual and political ruler between Eli and Saul.
God
raised up Samuel to unify the nation under one king. These chapters tell
about his birth
and call from God.
1. God was moving with God's plan in God's time. Don't judge by outward
circumstances.
God is at work and will act on God's time table.
2. Peninnah's words hurt Hannah. Hannah found refuge in God.
Don't wallow in self-pity. Turn to God for healing and encouragement.
3. Instead of Hannah finding revenge for Peninnah's hurtful words she
prayed and never
gave up hope.
4. The promise of Hannah was Hannah's idea, not God's. Don't bargain with
God. God loves
you and will answer your prayers appropriately without your deals.
5. Eli misunderstood Hannah. Sometimes spiritual leaders misunderstand our
burdened hearts.
6. God would judge Eli's family because of the sons' sin Eli knew about and
failed to
restrain. There are great consequences when we fail our responsibility
to our children.
Never neglect your family in order to do God's work.
God, help me to remember that you work in your time. Help me to remember my
family
obligations as well as my work for you. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
