Laura Meengs, Field Coordinator for
Imagine No Malaria, will be joining us at both sessions. Laura
joins us from United Methodist Communications in Nashville, TN.
Later in the week she will be reaching out to you via email to share
more about the Imagine No Malaria ministry and the upcoming training
sessions. I hope that you will give her a warm welcome to Western
Pennsylvania!
As Christians, we are called to minister
to the least among us and as Methodists we are called to do all we
can, in all the places we can, to all the people we can. Please
prayerfully consider your church’s participation in the Imagine No
Malaria effort.
Together, we can accomplish amazing
things!
Blessings,

CROSS Walk ~ the
Road to Calvary_______†
On April 3,
2010, which is the last Saturday before Easter, I and a few faithful
friends, will be taking up a ten foot cross of wood and walking @ 25
miles from Christ United Methodist in Youngwood to Calvary United
Methodist in McKeesport on “The Road to Calvary”.
Our route
winds through Youngwood, Middletown, Hempfield, Arona, Herminie,
North Huntingdon, White Oak, and into McKeesport.
Our
purpose of our walk is to raise awareness in these ways:
1)
The call of Christ to Unity
in the Church and in
His people,
2)
The critical need for supporting
the Local Mission effort,
3)
To spread the
Good News in and
of His love for us in Jesus Christ.
The funds
generated by this Walk on the Road to Calvary will be evenly
divided and given to
both Christ and Calvary United Methodist Church’s families to
support each of their efforts in Local Missions.
I pray you
will support this effort with your prayers and your giving.
Simply note “Cross Walk” on your check or envelope when you give.

Chile Earthquake
Outreach
CHILE: UMCOR RESPONDS TO 8.8
MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE
After the strongest earthquake in the
region in half a century struck central Chile early Saturday,
February 27, UMCOR responded with an initial emergency grant to its
partners in Chile to help them bring relief to survivors.
The $10,000 grant will help the
Methodist Church of Chile (IMECH) and its relief arm, the Methodist
Humanitarian Action Team (EMAH), conduct needs assessments and bring
water and food to survivors.
Last October, UMCOR dispatched an
international disaster response team to Chile to help the Methodist
Church there prepare for natural and human-made catastrophes.
Bishop Joel Martinez, interim general
secretary of the General Board of Global Ministries, called on “our
generous United Methodist constituents to join in the response to
the Chile Emergency Advance to strengthen UMCOR’s ability to be
fully present with resources.”
Please send your contribution and
mark Chile Emergency,
UMCOR Advance #3021178 on
the memo line. One hundred percent of gifts made to this advance
will help the people of Chile.
Give your offering through your local
church and your church treasurer will send it to the Conference
Center – or mail your check to the Conference Center (1204 Freedom
Road, PO Box 5002, Cranberry Township PA 16066-0002).
DISTRICT HAITI COLLECTION
UPDATE
A BIG “thank you” to all
of the churches who contributed to Haiti Relief. The district
collected $42,603.93 which was given to UMCOR. Also, various
churches within the district delivered 2439 kits to either the
Conference Center or Eastbrook Mission Barn. In addition, the
district drop-off delivered 1783 health kits, 97 school kit bags and
2 flood buckets to the Eastbrook Mission Barn. There are completed
school kits still needing to go to the Mission Barn in the near
future.
Mission Barn – correction and
needs
UMCOR has notified us that
not only Health Kits are needed in Haiti, but Birthing Kits and
Layette Kits are needed. (Women don’t stop having babies in a
disaster.) In addition, the Mission Barn is in need of hand towels
and finger nail clippers (or metal finger nail files) to complete
incomplete kits. Finally – when kits are verified at the Mission
Barn, they are packed into paper boxes – those boxes that hold reams
of paper in Staples or Office Max or places that use enough paper to
buy it by the box. If you can, donate some empty paper boxes with
your kits.
Flood/Cleaning Buckets needed
for possible Pittsburgh region flooding
From Fred Watts, Pittsburgh
District VIM Coordinator: While our attention is justifiably
focused on the disasters in Haiti and Chile, a little attention to
the local weather news suggests that we should be planning ahead for
the distinct potential for flooding. Allegheny County Emergency
Services Chief, Bob Full said recently "The rivers are going to
flood. It's just a question of where." (http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10058/1039054-258.stm)
The Eastbrook Mission Barn, the
Western PA Conference UMCOR distribution center, reports only 377
verified Cleaning Buckets. These will be disappearing quickly when
flooding occurs. So think about adding Cleaning Buckets to your
church’s goals in addition to the relief for Haiti and Chile.
Check out the latest Cleaning
Bucket Assembly Instructions from the UMCOR web site. http://new.gbgm-umc.org/umcor/getconnected/supplies/flood-bucket/

Health Kits for
Haiti
Can you help out by providing
materials for a Health Kit that can be sent to Haiti? This would be
a good opportunity for you to personally assist in the disaster
response. If you can only provide a few items, the Mission Barn
will take the items without being in a kit.
Health Kit Items Value: $12
per kit
Place these items inside a resealable
one-gallon plastic bag.
- 1 hand towel (15" x 25" up to
17" x 27", No kitchen towels)
- 1 washcloth

pocket-sized)
- 1 nail file or fingernail
clippers (no emery boards or toenail clippers)
- 1 bath-size bar of soap (3 oz.
and up)
- 1 toothbrush (single brushes
only in original wrapper, No child-size brushes)
- 6 adhesive plastic strip sterile
bandages
- $1.00 to purchase toothpaste
(NOTE: UMCOR
Sager Brown is now purchasing toothpaste in bulk to be added to
health kits before shipping to ensure that the product does not
expire before they are sent.)
Important Kit Assembly Information
- All items included in kits must
be NEW items.
- All emergency kits are carefully
planned to make them usable in the greatest number of
situations. Since strict rules often govern product entry into
international countries, it is important that kits contain only
the requested items-nothing more.

must be painstakingly removed and will delay the shipment.

District events and dates
are now available on the Conference website! You can find them
listed at http://www.wpaumc.org/districts/detail/28 under
“Upcoming Events”, or by visiting the calendar at the conference
website, and narrowing the search by district (select Greensburg from
the drop-down menu).
The new WPA conference website
gives the District Offices more control and direct input. The
individual district websites are being phased out by the end of the
month. This will mean that all information, forms, district web
pages, and more will all be accessed from the Conference website (www.wpaumc.org),
in place of the old Greensburg District webpage.
Feel free to let us know if you
have any questions or suggestions. We are excited about these new
changes…so stay tuned!
The greensburgtrailblazers.org site
is no longer in use.
2009 Audit Forms:
Audit reports for
2009 were due at the District office by March 1, 2010. By
Discipline, all organizations, committees, church school classes,
youth groups, Methodist Men & Women, or any group that maintains a
checking, savings, or had income invested, must have their financial
records for 2009 audited. This includes back statements and
checkbooks.
