Alma and June thank you for your support.

"THE STORY"

On October 29 and 30 you will see many books titled "The Story" as you
leave the sanctuary. All adults are welcome to take a free copy home.

On November 6 we will begin 31 weeks of Sunday school and worship
using "The Story" as a resource. This book will take us from Genesis to
Revelation. It is not the Bible but it includes many passages from the Bible.

The two new additional Sunday school classes for the children as well as
the existing youth classes will all study the same curriculum for different age
groups. There will be an adult discussion group during the Sunday School time
so that adults will know what the children are studying and be able to reinforce
it at home.

The pastor will also use "The Story" Bible passages as a guide to take us
through the highlights of the Bible in the 31 weeks.

Each chapter of the book is about 8-12 pages. We encourage you to read it
before you come to church each week so you will have a better idea of what the
Sunday will hold. If you have to miss a week of worship you can still read the
chapter and still have an idea of what we covered.

All of our shut-ins will receive a copy so they too will be able to follow along.
When you receive the book, you will also receive a schedule so you will know on
what Sunday we will have each chapter. Christmas and Easter will be Sundays
that we will stray from the book. We seldom call off if weather is bad, but if we
do - read the chapter at home and stick with the schedule for the next week.

We will not be taking up an offering in the children and youth classes. If you
would like to contribute to the Sunday School budget (from which we purchased
these books and other materials) you may put money in the container on the
back table or give it to Catherine Kelly. Checks should be made out to "First
United Methodist Sunday School." If you would like this to appear on your
statement you may give it to Catherine and she will keep a record for you.

It is our goal that by the end of 31 weeks every man, woman and child
who comes to our church will be much more Bible literate and have a better
understanding of God's plan for the world and for each of us.

OPERATION SAFE SURF
Presented by
Pa. State Attorney General Office
SENIOR SPECIALTY OFFICER AGENT RICK SHAHEEN

FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF MANOR
30 Atlantic Ave. Manor, Pa

MONDAY, JUNE 6, 2011, 7:00 P.M. - FREE PROGRAM

Operation Safe Surf is designed to help educate kids, parents, and schools about the importance of being safe online. Children are growing up in a digital age and spend a great deal of their time online - instant messaging, researching and shopping. And, while these are all great tools, they need to be used wisely. Children are being targeted by online predators at an alarming rate, so it is critical for us to help them learn how to protect themselves while still enjoying all of the benefits of the Internet.

FREE MONTHLY FOOD DISTRIBUTION
TO THOSE WHO QUALIFY

The Presbyterian, United Church of Christ, United Methodist Churches in Manor and the Primitive Methodist Church in Westmoreland City work in conjunction with the Westmoreland County Food Bank to distribute free food once a month to those who qualify.   The food is distributed from the Preston Building (in the parking lot of the First United Methodist Church in Manor) on the corner of Atlantic and Cleveland Ave.   This distribution is free to all Westmoreland County families regardless of zip code.  You can, however, only go to one County food distribution.

The distributions are held 10:00-11:30 on the second Tuesday of each month.   Those who are helping are asked to come early (8:30-9:00) to help set up and unpack the truck.

Walk-ins are welcome, but to be assured of food you should register in advance.
Please bring boxes, laundry basket or bags to transport your food.

Beatitudes for friends of the elderly

Blessed are they who understand
My faltering step and palsied hand.
Blessed are they who know my ear
Must strain to catch what others hear.
Blessed are they who seem to know
That my eyes are dim and my wits are slow.
Blessed are they who looked away
When my coffee was spilled at the table today.
Blessed are they with a cheery smile
Who stop to chat for a little while.
Blessed are they who never say,
"You've told that story twice today."
Blessed are they who know the ways
To bring back memories of yesterdays.
Blessed are they who make it known
That I am loved and not alone.
Blessed are they who ease the days
On my journey home in loving ways

NEW! MEMBER'S LOGIN AREA!

To avoid any possible information harvesting by online marketers and other unscrupulous entities whose automated website crawlers regularly visit websites to harvest email addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, etc. for a host of potentially harmful reasons, including, but not limited to, selling the information to numerous marketers for purposes of sending spam mail, telemarketing, snail mailings and so on, we have created a "Members Only" area where you can safely login to access sensitive or private contact information amongst other church members. "The Holy Alphabet"

Although things are not perfect
Because of trial or pain
Continue in thanksgiving
Do not begin to blame
Even when the times are hard
Fierce winds are bound to blow
God is forever able
Hold on to what you know
Imagine life without His love
Joy would cease to be
Keep thanking Him for all the things
Love imparts to thee
Move out of "Camp Complaining"
No weapon that is known
On earth can yield the power
Praise can do alone
Quit looking at the future
Redeem the time at hand
Start every day with worship
To "thank" is a command
Until we see Him coming
Victorious in the sky
We'll run the race in gratitude
Xalting God most high
Yes, there'll be good times and yes some will be bad, but...
Zion waits in glory..where none are ever sad!

WELCOME!

Christian children's education is not just for Sunday anymore!

SEWING GROUP

The Sewing Group wishes to invite everyone to "come and sew" with us. We make lap robes which are delivered to personal care homes and shut-ins. Come at 10:00 A.M., bring a sack lunch.

Send to the Navajo Mission: 621 Campbell labels & 169 Education box tops

Job well done!

Just a reminder: The Campbell labels can be taken off the soup cans, baked beans, etc... When you rinse the can out, the label gets wet. Take a knife (be careful not to cut yourself) and rip up the back of the can so the front of the label is not ripped or torn. Let it dry laying flat and then give it to us. Some of the labels are being ripped up the front and we can't use them. Some are not drying the labels flat. Some are rolling the labels in cylinders and they stick together when we unwind them and pull them apart. They tear. When we take the time to remove the labels from the cans. we certainly want to take credit for each label. Thank you so much!

~Alma and June

There is a box on the back table for these items.

1. Campbell labels
2. Education box tops
3. Aluminum tabs
4. Greeting cards (front only)
5. Canceled stamps
(1/4-1/2 inch all the way around)
6. Used eye glasses
